Lincoln Park Townhouse
Project Muse
You can’t find a more charming city dwelling than this rowhome on a historic street in Lincoln Park. The only caveat to these magnificent older spaces is that they tend to lay out a bit differently than what our modern lives call for. Our clients had already moved the kitchen up to the main floor by the time we came onboard but now found that their dining room sat right in between their kitchen and family room, making it very impractical to use with their young children.
We started by flipping the orientation of the rooms - moving the family room adjacent to the kitchen and shifting the dining room into a parlour with a dining banquette. We then sought to make them each more inviting. The goal was to create spaces that would be used! Real estate is too precious to waste in the city.
Noteworthy Moment
I’m not going to lie - red is a hard sell. We kept putting paint colors up in the room, each time making them a little bigger and each time thinking this is the moment we would convince our client to go red. But to no avail. Our back up plan was to go robin’s egg blue. I finally caved and expressed to our client that you really can never go wrong with a blue room. This was the moment she said ‘Let’s do it. I’m ready to go red.’ Reverse psychology is a real thing I now know.
