PROJECT MUSE

When we first met this client, he had recently been widowed and reached out to us to design a downtown condo he would be moving into himself. It was a sobering project that deeply connected us to our client. We designed a bachelor dwelling in the taste of his stately manner that we hoped would help him rebuild this next chapter.

When he next called us, he had met someone whom he was profoundly connected to and had just purchased a home with. The home was newly constructed in the northern Chicago suburb of Glencoe - it was a lovely home, short of being stark white and gray and begging for some life.

His soon to be wife knew that this house desperately needed a personality. As a notable jewelry designer, she had collected amazing art and trinkets throughout years of bouncing around the globe. Her daring and discerning eye blew us away from the start. This wasn’t just going to be a client, this was a collaboration.

We had our muse.

NOTEWORTHY MOMENT

I love a good challenge. In this case, our client was used to driving great results from people. He had recently retired from running a rather large consulting firm in downtown Chicago and now ran an executive training firm.

Our challenge - paint, wallpaper, refinish, electrify, change out every single thing in our giant design appetite in three weeks. I’m not going to lie and say it was easy, but we did it. And ended up with a very satisfied client. Which felt really good. Actually no, it felt fantastic.

In the client's own words...

"Working with Sarah Vaile was a dream collaboration. Sarah and I worked together to incorporate my style and beloved objects de art, to make create a beautiful, bright and inviting home for Henry and I. Sarah is not afraid of color and neither am I. We went bold in all of our choices, from the palm wallpaper in the dining room to the teal walls in the great room. Not only is she a talented designer she is a pleasure and a joy to work with. I would work with Sarah again in a heartbeat, in fact I am!
