Hill Road Colonial
Project Muse
We hear a lot how challenging it can be to decorate with color. For us, I think the opposite might actually be true.
When this Winnetka client first approached us she had one must for her new living room: an ivory rug. This most definitely steers any design toward a more muted palette. We welcomed the challenge to rediscover the many shades of white and quieter hues that we had largely walked away from years before. It was a rebirth of white, lavender and blue for us, bringing these classic and serene shades back into our beloved palette.
Noteworthy Moment
Oftentimes, there is a fabric or wallpaper we come across during the design process that elicits absolute euphoria from the design team and our clients. This Nicolette Mayer wall covering did just that. We had been searching for a wall covering for the dining room that was simultaneously subtle and a showstopper. Our client was steadfast in her gravitation toward a quieter palette and softer pattern. We equally knew that this room would be the epicenter of the formal front rooms so had to be something quietly remarkable.
On at least our fiftieth pull for this paper, we all had that moment where we just knew this was it. The lilac and sage shades of the subtly intricate grasscloth literally sparkled. The hue of the paper changed depending on the light picking up different elements of the immensely detailed design. The only way I can describe the feeling is to call it utter design euphoria.
In the client’s own words…
"Working with Sarah and her team was such a great experience. They pushed me out of my comfort zone while staying true to my personal style. Sarah’s patience, hard work and respect for my opinions made the process so enjoyable, and the results speak for themself. It is a home that feels current yet timeless. I know I’ll love my my house for years to come because of Sarah!“
