Lake Forest Showhouse
Project Muse
The color palette came to be when we first laid eyes on a burgundy Rolls Royce driven by none other than Princess Margaret in the uber stylish show “The Crown”. Princess Margaret and her flamboyant lifestyle quickly became the muse for “the gossip room”. We loved the idea of playing up a vestige of proper homes of the past: the cloak room off of the powder, where the guests could congregate in small groups for a little mischievous conversation outside of the spotlight. When we stumbled upon “Framboise" by Sherwin Williams - a color named for raspberry fermented cocktails - it all felt too perfect. A custom bench was made to fit into a cozy nook of the cloak room while a mirrored wall, tongue-n-cheek print and tassels galore further dialed up the whimsical nature of the gossip room.
Noteworthy Moment
If you could have seen the meticulous placement that went into every detail of DeGournay’s Rousseau wallcovering….Each and every animal, leaf, and piece of fruit was intentionally positioned throughout the layout of the powder room. There’s nothing like having a sloth swing down onto your mirror and a monkey peer in while you are washing your hands.
In the Press’ own words….
“This powder room by Sarah Vaile Design is the jewel box of the house. The Rousseau wallpaper by de Gournay takes you to the jungle, while the Framboise paint by Sherwin-Williams on the window frame adds an unexpected pop of color. The mirror is by Carvers’ Guild, the fittings are by Brizo, and the window treatment is by The Shade Store.”Parker Bowie Larson, Style Director at ELLE DECOR
“A powder room should always be the hidden jewel box of the house! Sarah Vaile Design knocked it out of the park by using a custom Degournay wallcovering complimented by raspberry painted molding to make the room every more colorful for the Lake Forest Showhouse! And how that about that gorgeous mirror by Carvers Guild Mirrors?!” ~Erin Minckley, Relativity Textiles
