gold coast apartment
Project Muse
I still vividly remember the first time I saw our client’s New York Apartment in a 2014 issue of House Beautiful. The vibrant purple grasscloth walls - jeweled purple mirror and all - paired with black lacquered walls in the living room nearly stopped me in my tracks. It was bold. It was awesome.
Fast forward 6 years later and our client found herself back in the Windy City where she had grown up and was now looking at us to decorate her new Chicago home. By this point we had generated a bit of a reputation as a firm who could do bold colors. If the House Beautiful article indicated anything, I knew this client would be game. So you can imagine we were caught slightly off guard when she announced that she would like a serene and soothing palette for her new apartment.
The good news is that we live for a good challenge. I loved the idea of taking the palette of her former spread - with the bright purple jeweled mirror as the muse - and remixing into a soft and sophisticated version for her next decade of life. Thus bright purple became lavendar and glossy black walls became the Degournay Le Eden mural. Then we elevated the simple and fresh Bungalow 5 pieces with some Vladimir Kagan vintage chairs recovered in a sherpa wool and a Mastercraft brass chest and dueling chandeliers.
Noteworthy Moment
Hand’s down, it was having the project appear in House Beautiful.
A very fun way for this project to come full circle.
